Sometimes Avira Free Antivirus has trouble in updating from heavy server traffic. When you install AntiVir, it has a preset time-out limit that may fail from high server load.
This is represented in the update log as being:
[UPDLIB] [ERROR] Download manager: An error occurred inside the WinINet library.
If this occurs, you may manually update, or run this command via Start -> Run:
"C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\update.exe" /DM="0" /NOMESSAGEBOX /receivetimeout=120
