This is an excellent website for current approximations of global and national populations and their estimated growths, respectively. Worldometers uses sophisticated statistical algorithms to determine the "real-time" estimates displayed on their site. They derive this information from verified, well-known international sources, such as the United Nations and World Health Organization estimates, and whenever a new report is released the algorithms are updated.
This is probably the most accurate counter for global populations in the world and I trust it completely.
